A Lichfield leisure centre is getting a £200,000 makeover.
Friary Grange will develop new changing rooms and an improved front entrance thanks to the funding.
The improvements will also see the creation of a viewing platform to the pool from an extended refreshment area.
The work will be funded by Sport England, Aiming High, Staffordshire County Council, Lichfield District Council and section 106 contributions
Councillor Val Richards, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for leisure, said “We are absolutely thrilled that by working in partnership, we have secured the funding needed for this ambitious project.
“The changing rooms have been in need of refurbishment for some time, and so we are pleased the work is now going ahead.
“The new entrance will make a better impression on leisure centre users, and the funding will also help us to improve access to the poolside for everyone, especially for people with mobility issues.
“On top of this, we hope the new viewing platform will encourage even more people into the swimming pool.”
The improvements will see visitors entering the centre from the lower car park, while new floors, ceilings, showers, toilets lockers and family changing cubicles will also be installed.
Councillor Mike Lawrence, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for community, culture and localism, added: “The improvements will not only benefit the pupils at the school but also the local community.
“The refurbishment will promote club growth and should also help inspire many young people to take up other sporting opportunities.
“Working together we have produced a long lasting legacy of the Olympic and Paralympic Games that we can all be proud of.”
The Friary’s swimming pool will be out of action for most of the summer while the work is carried out from July.
“We are delighted that the improvement project will ensure that future generations of Friary students continue to enjoy excellent sporting facilities,” said The Friary School’s headteacher David Lister.
