Lichfield Live to be honoured for ten years of community reporting with train station plaque

Lichfield Live has been named as one of the region’s community heroes.

It comes after West Midlands Railway and the West Midlands Rail Executive received nominations for organisations along the route of the cross city line which have made an impact on their local area.

The website – which celebrated its 10th birthday earlier this year – will now be honoured with a plaque installed at Shenstone station later this month.

It comes as part of the Cross City Heroes competition to mark the 40th anniversary of the cross city line.

Other Lichfield organisations to be recognised are Friends 2 Friends at Lichfield Trent Valley and Lichfield Cricket Club at Lichfield City station.

Fay Easton, head of stakeholder and community for West Midlands Railway, said: “We have received a fantastic range of nominations for our Cross City Heroes competition, and the final 24 are a really deserving list of winners.

“The route is key to connecting people across the city, and there is so much going on around stations on the line.

“We want to thank everyone who submitted nominations, but more importantly to our winning groups for everything they contribute to their local communities.”

Roger Lawrence, chair of West Midlands Rail Executive and West Midlands Combined Authority portfolio holder for transport, said: “The cross city line is by far our busiest commuter rail route and now carries more than 55,000 passengers every day.

“Local rail lines are an important part of any local community and to mark the cross city line’s 40th anniversary we are delighted to acknowledge the inspiring work people in those communities are doing to help others.”
