A Lichfield man is set to take part in his 17th London Marathon.
John Gallivan will raise funds for ChildLine – a cause his marathon efforts have already raised £70,000 for.
“I have always enjoyed taking part in the London Marathon,” he said. “I’ve never been one to try and get round in the quickest time – I like to take my time and have fun.
“For me it’s a great opportunity to help raise money for ChildLine and I’m pleased to be running again this year.”
The 2012 London Marathon takes place on April 22. Money raised by those running for the NSPCC will go towards supporting the charity’s ChildLine service – the free, confidential 24-hour helpline service for children in danger or distress.
Local community fundraising manager Sarah Williams added: “John’s support over the years has been incredible and we are so grateful to him for choosing to run the London Marathon again for us.
“We rely on the support of people like John to help us to run our projects and services for children and young people. It costs £1,600 to recruit, train and provide ongoing support for a ChildLine volunteer who could go on to provide support to over 180 young people in their first year.
“The money that John has raised over the years is amazing and we wish him the best of luck with this year’s event.”
