Lichfield’s MP has welcomed a crackdown on drivers who hog the middle lane on motorways.
The Government has unveiled new measures which will see on-the-spot fines for careless drivers.

As well as those hogging the middle lane, tailgaters will also face £100 fines and three points from July.
The move has been welcomed by Michael Fabricant MP, who told his Twitter followers: “There’s no point in a three lane motorway if the inside lane is ignored by middle lane hoggers.
“As well as tail-gating, middle lane hogging also causes overtaking on the inside lane – undertaking – which is also dangerous.
“I often drive between Lichfield and Westminster. Middle lane hoggers seriously p**s me off.
“Good to hear there’ll be a crackdown.”

The new penalties will allow police to deal more quickly with offences which would currently have to go to court, with many incidents going unpunished at present because of the lengthy process involved.
