Michael Fabricant made his comments following a speed awareness course he went on after being caught doing 35mph in a 30mph zone.

He told his Twitter followers how he was clocked 5mph over the limit while on official business in Cardiff.

But the MP admitted that he and other “naughty boys” had found the course beneficial.

He tweeted: “In a momentary blink of an eye, I committed a crime and drove 5mph over the speed limit. Swift is my retribution.

“[The] speed awareness course was good. Better understanding now of UK speed limits and signs, recognising road dangers and inter-car distances.

“Quite a nice ‘class’ of person attending the speed awareness course – all ages, but intelligent and lively.”
