Work is set to start to create wider bays in Lichfield’s multi-storey car park.
The Frog Lane/Birmingham Road car park has often been criticised by drivers for having bays that are too narrow.
As a result, work will take place in stages from November 30 to December 3 to widen the spaces.
Councillor Louise Flowith, Cabinet Member for Operational Services, said:
“We decided to widen the parking bays in the multi-storey car park, following requests from drivers who told us they sometimes found it hard to park because of the narrow spaces.
“We’re pleased the work is going ahead, and have planned it in so that visitors are not disrupted very much. However, if the car park does fill up, there are plenty of other city centre car parks within easy reach.
“All multi-storey parking permits will be accepted at any of our long stay car parks – including the Bus Station – throughout the works. I hope everyone will bear with us while the improvements take place, as I am sure the results will be worth it.”
The work is aimed for completion on December – the second in the series of Christmas late night shopping events. This is when 50 shops in Lichfield will be staying open late, and visitors to the city can park in any District Council-owned car parks, including the multi-storey, for free after 4pm. The late night free parking runs every Thursday from November 26 to December 17.
