Normal business was resumed at Cooke Fields on Saturday as Lichfield RUFC dismantled a depleted Stratford side in a 67–14 win.
The pitch was in tremendous condition considering the recent weather and the home side set their intent out early with an intensity and accuracy that has become second nature to them. Excellent forward and back interplay saw the ball transitioning across the pitch.
Excellent set piece and strong carries from Southern, Burton and Maxwell-Keys soon had the score board ticking over, as Stratford couldn’t contain a team on a mission.
Lichfield were at times guilty of trying too much, and this allowed the visitors to sneak back into the game, a chip and chase bouncing kindly and getting them over the whitewash.
This triggered a response from the Greens who set about dominating every facet of the game, taking the half-time score to 33–7.
The second half continued in the same vein. Substitutions made at half-time had the desired impact, with the pack were relentless at set piece and at the breakdown.
The tries continued to mount up, but again Lichfield switched off and moved away from what seemed to have been working for them, allowing Stratford to break through and score under the posts.
The Greens will look to build on this victory when they take on Walsall this Saturday (January 18).
