Lichfield RUFC failed to bounce back to winning ways after going down 15-20 at home to Walsall to make it three losses in a row.
The Greens started brightly in testing conditions, as a break from Tom Adams saw him well supported by Greg Massey to score under the posts inside the opening minute.
Lichfield controlled the game for ten minutes, winning the collisions and disrupting the Walsall set piece.
From a midfield lineout, the backs once again moved the ball with accuracy and ran lines to hold the Walsall defence. Greg Massey once again found himself in space and showed great pace and strength to finish in the corner.
Lichfield were taking control of the game, before the turning point of the half occurred. Flanker Luke Taplin was lucky to be sin binned for a dangerous tackle and it was during this ten minute period that Walsall struck twice to bring the score to 12-10.
With the full contingent back on the pitch the Greens again pressed in attack and were rewarded with a penalty in front of the posts which Josh Massey converted to send his side in 15-10 ahead.
But the second period saw Walsall squeeze the life out of Lichfield in the second half. The hosts rarely touched the ball or managed to keep hold of it as the visitors dominated.
The Greens were losing the kicking battle and territory, struggling to play their way out of their own half with some poor decisions.
It was Walsall who took advantage of these errors, as a loose ball was picked up by the replacement and sprinted 30 metres to score under the posts. The try was converted and the visitors led for the first time with 20 minutes to play.
Lichfield tried to press, but the play was being forced and this incurred more errors. The away defence repelled anything their hosts threw at them, and they continued to kick deep into the opposition half, forcing them to play out.
Eventually Walsall were rewarded with a penalty in front of the posts, their fly half converting to take the score to 15-20.
Lichfield now have a break from league rugby with the annual club versus students game taking place on Saturday (December 29), 3pm kick off, before travelling to Barkers Butts on January 5 when they will be hoping to get their league campaign back on track.
