Lichfield singer Shaun Smith has missed out on the Britain’s Got Talent title.

The teenager saw his dream dashed after dance group Diversity landed a surprise victory to beat bookies favourite Susan Boyle to the crown.

But the rugby-playing 17-year-old produced his best performance of the competition and impressed the judges with his audition song Ain’t No Sunshine.

And despite missing out on the chance to appear at the Royal Variety Performance, Shaun was assured by judge Amanda Holden that a career in the music industry lay ahead of him, while Simon Cowell applauded him for giving the performance of his life.
