The groundbreaking Lichfield Talking Newspaper project is looking for volunteers.

Founded in 1981, the scheme now provides 16 hours of news and information to local residents as well as safety advice.

John May, who runs the service, explained: “What we now do could be doubled with some help.

“We can create talking newspapers for areas that are not covered if we record on an extra day a week. We could take a lot more people to socials if we had volunteers to take them to local venues. We could deliver more help if we had more people who are cleared to visit the vulnerable.

“We ask everyone to examine their diaries to see if they could manage once or twice a month to help.

“There is also a need for people capable of operating our recording equipment or our newly acquired Braille embosser.”
