Virgin Trains have confirmed that they will reinstate a high-speed Sunday service between Lichfield Trent Valley and London.
The new service, which will begin operating from December 13, has come about following pressure from rail passengers, including Lichfield MP Michael Fabricant.
Mr Fabricant was made aware of the reintroduction of the service by Virgin Trains’ Chief Operating Officer Chris Gibb.
The Lichfield MP said:
“This is great news for Lichfield commuters. When the new train timetables were introduced, Virgin stopped the weekend service as a regular service was due to be provided by London Midland. But regular problems to the London Midland Sunday service prompted me to ask Virgin to provide a back-up service on Sunday afternoons for the many businesspeople, students, and other travellers needing to be in London on Sunday night for an early start in our capital on Monday morning.
“The cancellation of all Sunday London Midland trains from Lichfield on September 6 due to industrial problems made matters even more urgent.
“I am delighted to be told that a new Virgin Sunday service will be introduced. As from December 13, a fast Virgin train will depart Lichfield Trent Valley at 5.27pm and will arrive in Euston at 6.46pm – a journey time of 1 hour 19 minutes – around half the time taken by the London Midland service, when it is running to time.”
