Lichfield will add a gardening and growers festival to its calendar of events for 2014.
The city’s Town Team have awarded £2,500 to enable local company Blue Strawberry to host the event next summer.
Lucy Grove-Hemmings, event manager for Blue Strawberry, explained: “We’ll be bringing colourful stalls into the city, linking up with market traders and businesses, and hosting talks and speeches from experts, including a TV gardening personality.
“Gardening is so popular at the moment, and the event ties in really well to the city’s entry into the Heart of England in Bloom competition, as well as the recent parks makeover.
“We’re also hoping to turn the event into an annual occasion to bring more and more people into the city each year.”
The money has come from £50,000 High Street Innovation funding, which was awarded to the city by the government last year to help boost shops and businesses.
