Lichfield singer Shaun Smith has reached the final of Britain’s Got Talent.

The teenage rugby player made it through his live semi-final and joined dance groups Flawless and Diversity as well as Scottish singer Susan Boyle in the final.

But Shaun’s passage through to Saturday’s live final wasn’t an easy one. After Flawless had won the public vote, the judges were forced to choose between the next two acts with the highest public vote. That meant Shaun was up against ventriliquist Gareth Oliver.

Simon Cowell opted for Shaun before Piers Morgan gave his vote to his opponent. But the Lichfield singer’s place in the final was secured after Amanda Holden gave his rendition of U2’s With Or Without You .

After being put through to the final, an ecstatic Shaun said:

“I didn’t expect this. I’ve had the best weekend of my life.”
