A CYCLING star has seen his achievements on two wheels marked with an honorary life membership to a local club.
Lichfield City Cycle Club saw members recognise Lewis Askey at an event in Whittington.
After initially joining the club aged just four, he rose through the ranks from juniors through to becoming a World Tour professional.
A spokesperson said:
“Lewis has competed in and completed all of the Tour de France, Giro D’Italia and the Vuelta.
“He has also achieved national titles and had exceptional results in major World Tour races.
“Lewis was joined on the night by a number of his coaches, including Mick Davies, Paul Askey and Rob Sharman from British Cycling, with the presentation being made by current Lichfield youth riders Olivia and Archie Hunt.”
The club is also looking to set even more youngsters on the path to cycling success via the coaching programme at Curborough Sprint Course.
A range of sessions are on offer from fun, skill-building sessions through to advanced racing.
“We also host a cafe ride every Saturday starting from Whittington, The Dog at 9:00, we welcome new riders.”
