COUNCIL chiefs are hoping for plenty of cheer as venues across Staffordshire net a surge in trade when England's World Cup campaign continues.
The Three Lions will be in action this evening (23rd June) as they take on Ghana in their bid to seal qualification for the next round.
The game kicks off at 9pm UK time, meaning pubs and other venues are anticipating a bumper evening of trade, with a number extending their opening hours to make the most of the fixture.
Cllr Martin Murray, leader of Staffordshire County Council, said:
"Talking with many venues across the county, I know they have enjoyed a boost to their takings in what are tough trading times.
"With such a strong performance from England in their first game, I think we will see more people supporting and visiting their local pubs, bars and restaurants to cheer on England."
