LICHFIELD Hockey Club's men suffered a defeat on derby day as they went down 5-3 against Barton.
The fixture began in lively fashion with both sides going head-to-head at full tilt.
The city men started brightly and got their first lead of the season thanks to a smart finish from Corey Frost from a short corner.
But at the end of the first quarter Barton were awarded a penalty stroke which saw them convert despite the best efforts of the keeper.
The goal saw the momentum swing in favour of Barton who scored three quick-fire second-quarter goals to lead 4-1.
Lichfield tried to fight back in the second half and pulled one back through Adey Gilbert.
But Barton hit back again after a goalmouth scramble found the net.
Frost pulled another one back for Lichfield in the fourth quarter, but the damage had already been done.
