PLANS to build a log cabin for rural workers in Upper Longdon have been rejected.
The proposals had been drawn up for land south of Shropshire Brook on Horsey Lane.
A planning application submitted to Lichfield District Council said the building would enable the "continued sustainability" of Somahouse Shetland Pony Stud.
It added:
"Somahouse Shetland Pony Stud was established over 50 years ago and has since built a strong reputation for breeding and preserving traditional native breeds.
"The enterprise remains family-run, with two generations actively engaged in its management at Land off Horsey Lane.
"The stud operations currently comprise three mares in foal and one stallion, forming the core breeding stock of the enterprise.
"The holding also supports a pedigree flock of Jacob sheep, currently comprising 22 breeding ewes and 2 rams. The flock is managed with a focus on producing quality breeding stock alongside lambs for sale, contributing both to the conservation of a traditional native breed and to the diversity of the holding’s enterprises."
But a decision notice said the scheme had been refused permission:
"The proposed development constitutes inappropriate development within the Green Belt.
"Insufficient information and justification have been submitted to demonstrate an essential functional need for a rural worker to live permanently at or near the holding."
