PLANS have been drawn up for the installation of a liquefied natural gas tank in Fradley.

A hazardous substances consent application has been submitted for a 17-tonne LNG storage facility at the Screwfix distribution centre on Nascawern Road.

If approved it could see up to 60 HGVs refuelled each day.

A statement supporting the proposals said:

"Road tankers will deliver LNG to the storage tank at a rate of 600 litres per minute.

"These tankers have emergency stop and dead man facilities added as extra safety measures. There is also an automatic LNG storage tank overfill protection system.

"The LNG pump is inside vacuum insulated chambers and pump LNG to the dispensers when a customer vehicle requires refuelling. During normal operation, each refuelling can typically be up to 150kg.

"Some truck manufacturers specify ‘warm’ gas for their vehicles, so a low pressure saturation vaporiser is used to saturate the gas and raise the pressure."
