A lorry driver has been jailed after being found guilty of causing the death of a Burntwood couple.
Pavel Dolejs, aged 44 and from the Czech Republic, was convicted of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving following a trial at Stafford Crown Court.
Tony Malpass, aged 29, and his girlfriend Joanne Beardsmore, 35, from Chasetown, died in the collision on the night of June 17.
The couple were travelling in their Kia Rio car when it was in collision with Dolejs’ lorry at the junction of the A5 and the B5011, near the Terrace Restaurant.
Senior investigating officer, Sgt Ben Foster, said: “The conviction and sentencing is to be welcomed.
“Mr Dolejs has been found to be responsible for the deaths of a couple whose lives have being cut tragically short, leaving family and friends completely devastated.
“It is vital that all motorists, including those from abroad, obey the Highway Code and follow the rules of the road.
“Staffordshire Police is committed to making roads safer and reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured.”
