Manager Paul Holt admits he’s ready to bring in more firepower in a bid to wake Lichfield City from their early season slumber.
Hopes were high of a strong start to the term after an impressive pre-season.
But just two wins from their opening nine league fixtures have left Holt ready to ring the changes to his shot-shy squad.
However, the Brownsfield Park boss admits attracting a top calibre hitman won’t be an easy task.
“It’s been a disappointing start,” Holt admitted. “We did so well pre-season but just haven’t carried that form into our league fixtures.
“We are more than matching sides for two thirds of the pitch, but we are missing so many chances – Saturday’s game against Pilkington was proof of that.
“We are on the lookout for a goalscorer and have made enquiries to get a couple in, but the prolific centre forwards at this level are on decent money.
“There was a response from the team at unbeaten Studley on Tuesday night and hopefully we are heading in the right direction.”
Lichfield will be able to take their mind of their baffling league form when they make history this weekend.
Holt’s men will become the first city-based team to appear in the FA Vase when they entertain Brocton tomorrow (September 7).
“We are really excited about the FA Vase,” said Holt. “It’s the first time any Lichfield club has been represented in the competition.
“It’s a great achievement when you consider how far we have come in such a short space of time and I’m especially pleased for the people behind the scenes for all their efforts in getting the club facilities up to the standard required for being involved in these fixtures.
“As for the game itself, it’s a real tough draw. Brocton are flying at the moment with a 100 per cent record in the league.
“But we will draw inspiration on the fact that we have the belief that we can beat anyone on our day. We were the only team to beat runaway champions and Vase quarter-finalists Walsall Wood twice last season.
“It’s a knockout game – anything can happen.”
Kick-off at Brownsfield Park tomorrow is at 3pm.
