Chasetown Ladies fell to a home defeat in a game where the scoreline flattered the visitors.
With Captain Sarah Thompson missing through injury, a new look back four fell behind to a goal inside two minutes and the visitors doubled their lead in the 18th minute after Shifnal broke the offside trap and shot home from the angle of the penalty area.
To their credit, Chasetown Ladies responded well and the Harriers keeper was far busier, clearing ahead of Stacey Roberts as she tried to latch onto a Lyndsey Turner header, and Turner’s follow up shot was blocked as the Scholars tried to get their way back into the game.
After dominating large periods of the first half, on the stroke of half-time, Shifnal extended their lead when Becky Troth misjudged a clearance and the ball was rolled into an empty net despite the attempts of Amy Farmer, retreating to try and clear off the line.
Chasetown sought to make sure they won the second half and within seconds of the restart substitute Dani Wright fired just wide of the post, and, with the wind in their favour, Jodie Kinsey tried her luck from distance on more than one occasion.
Against the run of play though, Shifnal added a heart-breaking fourth goal when a corner was only partially cleared.
The home side kept pushing though and Shifnal rode their luck on more than one occasion as Chasetown dominated possession and went close time and time again. On another day, with fine margins between the two sides, this could easily have ended 2-4 or 3-5. Shifnal deserved the win, but the score line hardly reflected the game.
