An historic walled garden near Lichfield has been branded ‘outstanding’ in a national award scheme.
The Royal Horticultural Society’s It’s Your Neighbourhood scheme handed out the accolade to Elford Walled Garden.
It was the second year running the volunteers had scooped the award and this year it was presented to Andria Martin and Thelma Lane.
The judges said: “This unique project is an outstanding example of just what can be achieved when extremely dedicated individuals pull together and form a community or volunteer group.
“The scale and range of achievements from vast roofing refurbishment to extensive horticultural displays simply defies belief and shows the wide variety of skills which this group of volunteers can call upon.”
Events take place throughout the year, including a family firework spectacular on November 1. Tickets cost £6 adults and £3 children and can be booked by calling 01827 383304.
