Author Lorraine Hellier is set to launch her new book in Lichfield.

Her latest children’s tale, The Curse of the Maze, will be unveiled at the Samuel Johnson Bookshop between noon and 2pm on November 23.

The fantasy novel takes readers to Serendipity Island – a place in another dimension, which can be accessed only via a Grandfather Clock. But Morinder has cursed the island and wants revenge on the inhabitants. Only the team of Amazateers can help free the islanders.

“My inspiration to write started after living in Guernsey for five years,” Lorraine explained. “Apart from using an island in the fantasy world, I visited the clockmakers there, which sparked the idea of using a Grandfather Clock as the entrance to another dimension.”

Lorraine says she hopes the book will help children lose themselves in the lives of the characters – just as she once did as a child.

“Now I write in the same way, walking in my own characters footsteps.”
