A high-profile road safety campaign aimed at reducing the number of motorcycle casualties on roads around Lichfield and Burntwood has launched.
Staffordshire Motorcycle Awareness Month runs throughout April and is calling on drivers to ‘think bike’.
As part of the campaign, an event at the Three Spires Shopping Centre in Lichfieldfrom 10am to 4pm on April 11 will offer advice for motorists about being more aware of bikers.
Kevin Wilcox, a road safety officer at Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership said: “Bikers only represent one per cent of all traffic on Staffordshire’s roads but they make up 23 per cent of those killed or seriously injured and that’s why we will continue to work closely with them to help reduce the number of accidents.
“While it is important for bikers to ride safely, it is equally important that we educate motorists on how they can prevent accidents by increasing their awareness and encouraging them to take a little more time to ‘think bike’.
“We are driving down the number of accidents year on year, and have put a lot of hard work into making our roads as safe as possible. However, even one fatality is too much which is why we are continually finding new ways of alerting motorists to the dangers and encouraging them to be more aware of bikers.”
