BURNTWOOD has appointed a new head coach.

David Kirby will take up the role with The Sportsway side following the departure of Steve Harris this summer.

He arrives at Burntwood after a playing career which saw him turn out in both rugby league and rugby union for the likes of Saracens and Blackpool Panthers.

Kirby has also coached at a number of clubs, including Congleton.

A spokesperson for Burntwood said:

"We are absolutely delighted to welcome David Kirby as our new head coach.

"David brings over 35 years of experience across rugby union and rugby league – as both a former professional player and a proven coach.

"As a coach, his record is outstanding with a league and cup double and multiple promotions, as well as developing players at academy level with Salford Red Devils.

"David builds environments where players develop, standards are high and winning becomes a habit."

The new head coach said:

"I am really looking forward to getting started and bringing huge success to Burntwood – and most importantly creating an environment everyone wants to be part of, on and off the field."
