A new leader has been appointed for the 6th Lichfield Scout Group.
Jolian Waldon – who has more than 20 years of experience in leading scout groups, will replace retiring leader Neil Cordes.
“I had not been involved since moving up to Lichfield to start a family seven years ago and was looking for a local group for my eldest daughter to join, as she was approaching the age of six where she could start Beavers,” Jolian said.
“I offered to help out where I could and the 6th Lichfield asked if I’d help lead them – I was more than happy to.”
The group meets at its own headquarters next to Martin Heath Hall on Christchurch Lane in the city.
Outgoing leader Neil Cordes said: “It is time to pass on the reins to someone younger and I wish Jolian well.”
The 6th Lichfield Scout Group offers activities for both boys and girls aged from six to 14 and already has a waiting list of over 40.
Jolian encouraged others to follow his lead and help out with the organisation.
“We are always looking for more help to run the group and the activities,” he said. “With more help with all of the sections, we can offer more places to local youngsters.
“We are currently seeking a number of new uniformed leaders to provide scouting to as many people as we can. All training is provided and many employers see this in a positive light,”

There are also opportunities to volunteer to help scout groups across Lichfield and Burntwood.
Katrina Creaser, District Commissioner for Lichfield Scouts, said: “With Jolian’s varied background in scouting he should be a real asset to the group, although you don’t have to have had a background in scouting to help out at your local group.
“Anyone willing to volunteer and to put themselves forward to help out will be welcomed and I’m sure we will find a place for them as well.”
