A new canals partnership has been launched in Staffordshire.
The Staffordshire Waterways Group will bring together interested parties to help improve local waterways and towpaths.
Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport, Mike Maryon, said: “The county council is keen to support the aims of the new group, and maximise opportunities for promoting wealth, health and well-being with the county’s canals.
“Staffordshire is the canal county, with over 154 miles of waterways and towpaths. We attract thousands of boat tourists as well as over a thousand moorers. “
Cabinet member for culture, communities and customers, Pat Corfield, added: “Canals are good for the county and tie in with the healthy aspect of the council’s schemes.
“We’ve already contributed £6m to the rebuilding of the dam at Chasewater, which provides an important water source for the West Midlands canal network.
