Lichfield City FC endured an afternoon to forget after going down 4-0 at Nuneaton Griff.
Gary Birch’s men had it all to do as early as the tenth minute when Dan McLeod saw red after giving away a penalty, which was duly converted by Aden Moore.
Things quickly got from bad to worse for City as with just a quarter of an hour on the clock they found themselves two behind when Mitchell Thompson netted.
The ten men were indebted to keeper Jon Clough as he pulled off a string of saves to ensure Nuneaton didn’t run away with the game in the opening half hour.
Thompson went close to a second before Griff hit the bar.
But the inevitable third Nuneaton goal came when Ryan Millerchip found the net before half-time.
It looked like being a long afternoon for Lichfield as within seconds of the restart they found themselves four goals down when Thompson headed home his second of the afternoon.
It took City 53 minutes to fashion their first shot on target when Mark Rose’s effort was comfortably held by the home keeper.
Nuneaton had a header cleared off the line as the pressure continued, but Lichfield avoided conceding again in afternoon they’ll want to forget quickly.
