PEOPLE are being urged to show their support for the Armed Forces this weekend.
The National Memorial Arboretum will be at the heart of national Armed Forces Day celebrations on Saturday (27th June).
Staffordshire County Council has also confirmed it will be flying a flag to commemorate the day from Shire Hall.
It follows a recent row over which flags were and weren't acceptable after the authority told Burntwood Town Council a Pride insignia could not be flown at Burntwood Library.
Cllr Martin Murray, leader at Staffordshire County Council, said:
"Armed Forces Day gives us the opportunity to come together to recognise the courage, commitment and sacrifice of the men and women who serve our country, past and present.
"Their dedication protects our freedoms and keeps our country and communities safe in what are quite uncertain times.
"Across Staffordshire, we remain proud of our strong links with the Armed Forces and are committed to supporting veterans, reservists, serving personnel and their loved ones, now and in the future."
Cllr Gordon Munro, vice-chairman of Staffordshire County Council and a former member of the military, said:
"For Armed Forces Day we proudly raise the flag across Staffordshire in honour of the courage, dedication and sacrifice of our armed forces community.
"This day is about more than ceremony. It is about gratitude for our serving men and women, our reservists, our veterans, and the families who support them through every challenge and sacrifice.
"To everyone who has worn the uniform, I say thank you for your commitment, your resilience and your service to our nation. Your contribution matters deeply, and it is sincerely respected.
"Let us celebrate our Armed Forces with pride and gratitude, and never forget the debt we owe to them."
