A formal planning application has been submitted for a new police station in Lichfield.
The land on the corner of Stafford Road and Eastern Avenue has long been earmarked for the development.
The project to switch the station from Frog Lane had been in doubt in 2009 after funding was pulled.
But the scheme has now reached the formal planning stage.
It was revealed in February that the new two-storey building would also be home to one of three “investigative hubs” across the county for Staffordshire Police.
Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis said: “The new police base demonstrates our commitment to local policing in Lichfield, with quick access to the main road networks and providing a modern base which neighbourhood and response teams will be able to meet in between patrols.”
