PLANS for two new homes in Armitage have been rejected.
The proposals for the semi-detached properties at land adjacent to 21 Nooks Croft had been submitted to Lichfield District Council.
But planning chiefs said issues around the “urbanisation of a prominent site adjacent to the Trent and Mersey Canal Conservation Area” meant the development could not go ahead.
A decision notice said:
“The introduction of two dwellings and associated hardstanding, including a 1.8-metre brick wall, would significantly erode the soft, green character of the area.
“The development would result in the loss of vegetation that contributes positively to the rural canal setting and provides a visual buffer to the A51 bridge.
“In the absence of a meaningful landscaping strategy or design assessment that responds to this sensitive context, the proposal fails to demonstrate that it would preserve or enhance the character or appearance of the conservation area.”
Other concerns were raised over ecological information provided and an “unacceptable level of overlooking” in relation to other gardens nearby, while the decision notice also highlighted access issues.
