A man has been found injured on wasteland near Chasewater.
Police confirmed local reports of the man being found on July 1 – but have said there is no reason to believe it is linked to a man who was shot dead in Chasetown four days later.
Social networking sites have been rife with rumours surrounding the injured man.
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said:
“We were called to an incident on July 1 where a man was found with injuries on wasteland near to Chasewater. Officers are investigating.
“There’s nothing at this stage to link it with the incident in Meadway Street. However, as with all investigations, we will keep an open mind about any potential links that may arise.”
