A new four-legged crime fighter could soon be on the streets of Lichfield and Burntwood.
Staffordshire Police have taken in Cooper from an RSPCA animal centre in Taunton and will now undergo six to eight weeks of training.
Although the force’s name might suggest otherwise, the two-year-old is the first ever Staffordshire Bull Terrier taken on in the county.
Cooper’s trainer, John Maunders from the Staffordshire Police Dog Support Unit, said: “He’s got a long way to go yet though and the standard of training is extremely high.
“But if he passes with flying colours, Cooper will specialise in helping officers search for drugs, firearms and cash.”
