BUSINESSES and residents are being warned to be in their guard after local reports of fake £20 notes.
Officers from Staffordshire Police say they have been made aware of the counterfeit cash being used.
A spokesperson said:
“Sadly, some businesses have already fallen victim.
“These fakes are the most common type currently in the UK. Criminals add foil stickers to imitate the genuine holographic strip. At first glance, they can look convincing, so check carefully.
“Always inspect the holographic strip and other security features – and if you suspect a fake note, do not accept it.”
