Plans to enhance Barton-under-Needwood have been described as “bold and innovative”.
The Parish Council showcased their proposal at Barton Village Hall on Saturday (March 15).
And the scheme got the backing of Michael Fabricant MP who said he hoped the ideas would breathe new life into the area.
“Barton-under-Needwood suffers from heavy trucks trundling through the village,” he said. “Often they mount the pavement and more than once have clipped pedestrians with their wing mirrors.
“The bold and innovative plans will – if implemented – deter trucks from using the village as a rat run while at the same time enhancing the village environment for tourists and locals alike.
“With Barton Marina attracting more and more visitors, local business in Barton are beginning to suffer. These proposals would reinvigorate the village.”
Local campaigners are already working on restricting the type of traffic passing through the village. Mr Fabricant added: “This scheme will work in concert alongside plans I and Andrew Griffiths, the MP for Barton, have discussed with the Leader of Staffordshire County Council regarding the need to restrict heavy trucks using villages like Barton, Yoxall, and King’s Bromley as an inappropriate short-cut.”
