A report has backed plans for a 200-home development in Handsacre.
Walton Homes hopes to create a mix of one, two, three and four bedroom properties on land next to Hayes Meadow Primary School.
Objections have been raised by local residents along with Armitage with Handsacre Parish Council.
There has also been criticism of the development from the Inland Waterways Association who claim the scale of the development is inappropriate.
But a report to Lichfield District Council’s planning committee next week has backed the proposals.
The report’s author said: “While I can appreciate concerns that have been raised by local residents regarding the loss of countryside, the site is not designated as being of high landscape value.
“Environmentally, the site would not elongate the form of Handsacre, rather in-fill an area between existing buildings.
“It is considered that adequate, high quality public open space will be provided on site to meet the needs of the future and existing residents.”
The developer will also be required to fund school places to accomodate new children coming into the area.
The report added: “Hayes Meadow is projected to be full for the forseeable future and as such a contribution towards the provision of additional primary school places is reasonable and necessary.
“For this development, given its scale, it is advised to be £463,302.”
Councillors will discuss the report and the development at a meeting on Monday (February 22).
