A RETRO 1960s vase was a star in the saleroom after fetching £2,100 at a local auction.
Designed 1966 by Geoffrey Baxter for Whitefriars, the tangerine design was sold by Richard Winterton Auctioneers.
The 24cm tall, shouldered bark case was made as part of the Textured range.
Decorative glass valuer David Fergus said:
“The Whitefriars market is volatile – it’s unpredictable, but it’s very exciting at the moment.
“If you have some Whitefriars in your house, now’s the time to sell.”
David will be offering free, drop-in valuations of all types of glass as well as ceramics, decorative art and pictures at The Auction Cafe on Market Street on 20th May from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
The Bargain Hunt valuer added:
“When it comes to Whitefriars, watch out especially for Baxter’s work from the mid-1960s to late 1970s, including shouldered, waisted, banjo, hooped and the iconic drunken bricklayer vases.
“Condition is also key and good examples should have no watermarks, chips or cracks.”
