The 5k fun run took place at Chasewater Country Park and was organised by Forward Action Burntwood.

A spokesperson said: “We don’t have a final total yet, but just at the race we collected nearly £2,000 – that doesn’t include the registration fees.”

The Race for Stephen is part of the ongoing fundraising drive in memory of the teenager who lost his battle against cancer in May.

He made headlines around the globe in the weeks before his death after celebrities joined his attempt to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

More than £4.3million has been collected so far – the single biggest donation in the charity’s history.

“It was an amazing day and I think it’s fair to say that ‪#Burntwood‬ really did Ste proud,” a spokesperson added.
