The winners of Lichfield Cathedral’s Christmas Tree Festival have been announced.
First place went to a tree with paper decorations inspired by a class project on World War I decorated by Year 4 of St Chad’s CE Primary CV School.
More than 40 trees decorated by community groups, schools, charities and businesses were part of the festival with visitors invited to make a donation in return for a token to vote for their favourite tree.
The event has helped to raise funds for Lichfield Cathedral’s East End Appeal, which now needs just £500,000 of its £3.7million target to restore the Herkenrode glass.
Patricia Collins, director of fundraising: “We are delighted that this new venture proved to be so popular, both for the participants and the visitors to the Cathedral.
“We would like to thank the Forestry Commission for their support with the trees, all our ‘tree decorators’ and Cathedral visitors for taking part with such enthusiasm.
“I am pleased that one of our local primary schools received the popular vote, the tree they decorated was wonderful.”
