A scout group based near Lichfield have been boosted by a £1,250 grant from a regional fund.
The 1st Drayton Bassett Scout Group’s bid to buy new camping equipment was supported by county councillor Matthew Ellis as part of the Staffordshire County Council Local Community Fund.
Cllr Ellis said:
“I’m really pleased to have provided this funding. The 1st Drayton Bassett Scout Group are an impressive bunch. The scouting movement is so important to youngsters gaining self respect and consideration for others. It gives them a great start on their journey to becoming well rounded members of society.”
The group has a mixed membership of 52 youngsters with an age range of six to 14 and is organised by age into three different sections being beaver scouts, cubs scouts and scouts. There are a number of uniformed leaders and some non uniformed parent helpers.
Scout Leader Colin Cartwright added:
“We are really grateful to Matthew and Staffordshire County Council for their support. Every penny counts in our quest to have us fully equipped for the camps we hold across our sections each year.
“Special thanks must also go to Drayton Bassett Parish Council and Baron Davenport’s Charity who have also been very generous with their support and helped us reach our target to buy the equipment we need.”
