LOCAL shoppers are being encouraged to know their consumer rights ahead of the Black Friday sales.
The plea comes from Trading Standards in Staffordshire ahead of deals launching with retailers on 28th November.
Bargain hunters are being reminded to only use reputable retailers and not get carried away by the hype – and also to stay alert for scammers trying to exploit the event.
Cllr Anthony Screen, cabinet member for community safety and resilience at Staffordshire County Council, said:
“Black Friday is a fantastic opportunity to snatch some great deals, but it’s important to be aware of potential scams and to know your consumer rights.
“You are legally entitled to receive goods as described, free from defects and fit for purpose. You are owed a refund, repair or replacement if this does not happen.
“Anyone having issues with a retailer or business should get in touch with Citizens Advice, who will provide guidance on the most appropriate course of action.
“Stay sharp and remember: if a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is.”
