LICHFIELD hockey Club's men saw their tough start to the season continue with a 5-3 loss against the University of Nottingham.
The visiting students took the lead after reacting quickest to a break-down in play.
They then doubled their advantage by dispatching a contentious penalty corner.
Things went from bad to worse as the students made it 3-0 before half-time after making a chance out of a broken-down short corner routine.
After the half-time break, it didn’t get much better as the visitors took advantage of Lichfield’s poor penalty corner record and put a good drag flick into the net.
Lichfield were able to get their first goal of the season thanks to a tap-in following a good shot over the keeper.
The city side then made use of a man advantage to make it 4-2 as the students had a substitute walk onto the pitch and influence the game, leading to the captain being sent off for two minutes.
But the students again stretched the lead after taking advantage of a goalkeeping error.
Lichfield got a consolation goal thanks to a fantastic finish by Corey Frost, but sadly the damage had been done earlier in the game.
