CHASETOWN left it late to salvage a point against Congleton Town – but the result means their winless run has now stretched to seven games in the league.

The Scholars went close to breaking the deadlock after ten minutes when Ollie Finney powered an effort over the bar.

In tough conditions, Dylan Thomas was next to test visiting keeper Dave Parton with a ferocious strike – and then Matt Hearsey tried his luck with a curling shot that was just off target.

Shakeel Jones Griffiths went close for Congleton after 25 minutes when his shot was deflected past the post.

The visitors were finding their feet and again pressured the Chasetown goal give minutes later when Dan Needham's header was kept out by Curtis Pond before another shot struck the upright.

But the Scholars saw their luck run out moments later when Joe Woolley broke the deadlock to make it 1-0 to Congleton.

Chasetown found themselves pinned back immediately before and after the break as Julias Ndene headed over and Rob Stevenson's shot was just over the bar.

Hopes of an equaliser looked to have passed when Hearsey fired over with 15 minutes to go.

But there was drama in the third minute of stoppage time as Matt Funge netted a dramatic equaliser.
