A LOCAL couple have marked 61 years of marriage with a special wedding blessing.

Dorothy Judd and her 100-year-old husband John marked the occasion alongside friends and family at Hammerwich Hall care home.

Staff transformed the home into a wedding venue for the day, with the ceremony conducted by Advinia Healthcare's head of dementia – and a qualified registrar – Sarah Merriman.

The couple's daughter Janette Elliott said the celebration had been an unforgettable experience for the family. She added:

"We are truly grateful to the team at Hammerwich Hall for giving our family such a memorable day in honour of our parents' 61 years of marriage.

"It was a beautiful celebration of their love, devotion and the life they have built together. Every detail made the occasion feel as special as they are."

The couple were also joined by fellow residents for a three-course meal after the blessing.

Home manager Kerrie Carpenter said:

"What a truly wonderful and special day it has been. I feel so proud to see our residents, families, staff and guests coming together to share this beautiful blessing.

"Days like this remind us that our home is not just a care home, it is a family filled with love, kindness, friendship, and wonderful memories."
