LICHFIELD Hockey Club's women continued their impressive start to the season with a win over Matlock.
The unbeaten city side went into the game as favourites against opposition who were yet to get a win on the board in the league.
But the first half was a little slower than Lichfield were used to playing and, as a result, the home team found it difficult to really get going.
Despite having the majority of possession and attacks, the city women were not able to find the backboard.
Matlock also had no joy at the other end, though, and at half-time the score was 0-0.
The second half was a similar story with Lichfield not quite clicking as they had done in previous weeks. But despite this, they were able to finally open the scoring after some lovely passing around the Matlock defenders with Kym Shergill on hand to apply the finish at the back post.
The city side kept the pressure on and were rewarded with another goal from more slick passing, this time via Rebecca Popple with a reverse stick finish.
Lichfield made light work of keeping Matlock out at the other end to ensure they saw out the game at 2-0 to leave them top of the table.
