More people who have committed criminal offences in Staffordshire are completing drug rehabilitation programmes designed to help prevent them reoffending.
A report released by Staffordshire’s Alcohol and Drugs Partnership Board shows that people completing the programme is increasing and has exceeded the target set nationally.
Completion rates across the county are 63.9 per cent. The target for 2010/11 was 44 per cent.
Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for public health and community safety Robert Marshall said exceeding national targets for completion rates was good news for the community. He added:
“It’s encouraging to see that more offenders who may have committed an offence through addiction to drugs are being assigned to rehabilitation programmes and successfully completing them.
“All of the partner organisations involved are clearly doing a great job. It is important that people are given the opportunity to help themselves to rid themselves of addiction that is ruining their lives and damaging communities.
“I’m sure this good work will continue which is to the benefit of everyone in Staffordshire.”
