We are currently looking for more volunteers to attend our camps for seriously ill children and their siblings in Lichfield.
The camps are at Whitemoor Lakes on 10th – 15th and 18th – 22nd of August.
Over The Wall provides free of charge Therapeutic Recreation camps to help young people with life-limiting illnesses and their families. Through participation in a proven programme of fun-filled recreational and educational activities, our camps help promote inclusion whilst developing the confidence, self-esteem, coping strategies and peer relationships of all our campers.
We give children one glorious week of experiences that are memorable, exciting, fun and empowering, in a physically safe and medically sound environment. Over The Wall is the only residential camp in the UK structured on the late Paul Newman’s renowned ‘Hole in the Wall Gang Camp’. As Paul Newman put it “A place where kids can kick back, relax and raise a little hell”.
We have a variety of roles which allow you to be part of the team but also lead activities such as games, arts & crafts, music and the environment, as well safeguarding and photography. Camp is structured around activities, food and fun! We’re looking for people who can respond well to our campers and be a bit silly, but who are also able to be a sensible, supervising adult when necessary.
Volunteers arrive at camp a day before campers to receive training, specifically on Therapeutic Recreation. Activity leaders also receive training for the activity they will be leading. Staff will always be available during camp to support volunteers. Our one criteria is that you like children and are safe to care for them, placing their needs first!
