Community groups in Lichfield are being invited to bag a share of a £20,000 funding pot for green projects in the area.

Tesco is taking applications from organisations hoping to benefit from the 5p levy on plastic carrier bags.

Grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 will be offered for the winning bids before the June 3 deadline.

Caroline Silke, head of charity and local community at Tesco, said: “With more than 4,500 groups applying and almost 1,200 receiving a grant, the last round of the Bags of Help project was a great success.

“The deadline for applications for the second round of applications is fast approaching. This is a fantastic opportunity for community groups.”

Interested groups can apply online or by calling 0121 237 5780.

The final bids will be shortlisted down to a final three, with shoppers in store deciding which ones will win the biggest share of the prize pot.
