Seven triathletes taking part in a race near Lichfield have been treated by medics for effects of the severe weather conditions.

The competitors were taking part in the Barton Marina Open Water Sprint Triathlon when the low temperatures took their toll on them.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to Barton Marina, Barton under Needwood, shortly before 10.55am this morning.

A spokesman said:

“The ambulance crew assessed seven triathletes who were suffering from the effects of the cold. They all got changed and went to a pub where they warmed themselves up in front of the fire. We are told they are feeling a lot better.”
