Fly-tippers are being targeted as part of a new crack down by Lichfield District Council and Staffordshire Police.
A stop-and-search blitz is being carried out this month and will see officials from Environmental Health and Operational Services travelling with a police unit to pull over any vehicles which could be dumped illegally.
Four vehicles were stopped as part of the campaign’s first day on March 5 four vehicles were stopped and inspecting using new Control of Pollution powers.
Three of the vehicles stopped were carrying waste and one driver did not have the correct documentation. As a result he was issued a legal notice instructing him to send his paperwork to the council within seven working days. Failure to do so will result in either a £300 fixed penalty notice or legal proceedings.
